No More Fees for Museums

The Old State Capitol and the Old Arsenal Powder Magazine, two Baton Rouge landmarks, just announced that they would no longer charge admission fees... Louisiana Secretary of State Jay Dardenne, who oversees the administration of the two sites, abolished the admission fee there as well as at the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum in Shreveport.

The Old State Capitol, 100 North Blvd., is open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and from noon until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. It now houses the Louisiana Center for Political and Governmental History and it is a short distance from the Baton Rouge Sheraton. The Old Arsenal Powder Magazine, near the New State Capitol on Capitol Lake Drive, is open from 9:00 a.m. unitl 4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The Old Arsenal was built around 1838 and it was a staging area during the Mexican-American War and an important location during the Civil War.
